What do nurse shoes have to look like?

I’m starting the nursing program (just nurse pre-requisite classes) at college this year, and one of the requirements was for me to buy white shoes. I was wondering what they’re supposed to look like? I wanted to just buy some nice white running shoes, but I saw on some website that they weren’t allowed? Please help!

You can check out Alegria Shoes’ Professional Collection for an idea what great nurse shoes are like. and most importantly you need to get a pair of comfortable shoes since you will be on your feet for long hours.

My sister just has regular tennis shoes that are white (like Pumas or Nike) and they don’t say anything to her. She’s in a nursing program too. [:
